Hi All you CSI Ladies! Hope this finds you all scrap-happy and ready for some inspiration!

I wanted to pop in to the CSI Lab and share with you a brief tutorial of a layout I did recently, just for fun. This layout was made using up leftover scraps- those bits and pieces. You know what I mean!

I personally have had some items-particularly paper flowers that I have had for some time now that I don't particularly care for. I also have some handmade flowers I have made over the course of the past couple of years that are of a color I just cant stand!! My neat and tidy self has had the urge to throw these items away, but I have kept them to await inspiration.

And the day has come.

I have finally found a way that can hide the colors of flowers etc I don't care for as well as use up pieces of other elements to make it into something totally new, exciting and beautiful again.
First of all- don't be scared away by the mixed media part of this! I know it looks complicated, but I PROMISE it is not!
Here is what you do.....
1.Lay out all your items you want to use up. In this case I has some paper flowers, some extra buttons, half of a Brick Wall, Peacock Feather, and some extra lose cogs-all Dusty Attic.
2. Glue down your picture where you want it. Add some molding paste ( I use Golden) around the photo with your finger to add some texture and help your photo sort of blend in with the paper.
3. Play around with the placement of your misfit items and once you like how it looks glue down. Soon they will be beautiful! Patience ladies! ;)
4. Once this is dry you want to add a layer of Gesso ( I use Liquitex ) over ALL of it- except for you picture of course. Dry.
5. Misting time!!!!! I have used various mists to get it to the color I like.
6. Lastly, I added black ink to a crackle looking stamp of mine and stamped around the edges for added interest. I do this last because I don't like my mists hiding the stamp work.
And that is it!!!!
See how easy it is?! You have used up all your scraps and made them into something totally beautiful!!!
My best advice for this- forget the rules, and just create. My motto is if it turns out looking terrible then well its JUST PAPER and toss it and start again!
You can easily adapt this to a CSI Case file by-
*Using the corresponding colors of mists that go with the case file. I would suggest adding one color at a time, drying between each additional color to prevent muddying (bleeding) of colors.
* Adding your Evidence and then misting over it. For example you can easily see the Metal Crown on DS's head. Or you can add the evidence AFTER misting as well!
* Journal as usual.
Also Ladies a fun tip, If you don't have mists it is very easy to make your own. You will need a misting bottle, water, and acrylic paint. You can add different ratios of tap/bottled water with a squirt of acrylic paint to get it to the consistency that you want!!!
I encourage you to try this on your next CSI layout! PLEASE message me so I can see what you came up with! I would LOVE to see how you cracked the case using my tutorial!
I hope that I was able to inspire you today. Questions on the process, just let me know!!! I am happy to help!!!

Ladies, Co wanted to know how I got the effect of the brick wall. I used chipboard from the Australian Company Dusty Attic. I also can create the same effect by using a brick wall mask or my Dusty Attic Brick wall negative. I apply Golden's Gel Medium in the cracks to get the same effect.

OUI MERCI BEAUCOUP ^^

Oh yay Adrienne, I'm so glad you've done a tutorial! I have been hanging out for this. Your backgrounds are always amazing!

Thank you for the fabulous tips. Can't wait to use some of them and show you what I come up with.

Love your work xo

Adrienne, thank you so much for sharing this tutorial. I've been in a scrapbooking rut lately and I need to try new techniques to shake things up a bit. So today I went to Michaels and bought a bottle of clear gesso, and a brush to apply it. I am going to give mixed media a try. I love your advice to forget the rules and create. Between your tutorial, and one I saw on YouTube, I hope to let go of the feeling of making mistakes on my pages. We'll see how it goes. TFS:)

the page looks so lovely with all the misting and textures, especially the brick wall! gonna try it in the next case file haha! thanks for sharing this tutorial!!
